Cor’ Blimey Productions is a dynamic performing arts company specializing in theatre and film. Founded in 2020 by Ben Asensio during his studies in acting and theatre practice in Dundee, the company was born out of a desire to create meaningful, accessible entertainment. Asensio embarked on his studies with a passion for bringing stories to life, but he soon grew disillusioned with the direction of his education. He found himself frustrated by the emphasis on abstract, pretentious art that seemed disconnected from everyday audiences—filled with obscure imagery and messages that resonated only within an insular theatrical bubble.

In response, Asensio rallied a team of like-minded creatives who shared his vision. This included Scott Duncan (his right-hand collaborator), Rebecca Ross, Emily Powell, Iona Wait, Holly Stewart, Patrick Ward, and a rotating group of contributors. Together, they set out to create what they call “Theatre for the People” or, as Asensio describes it, “Urban Theatre.” Drawing from their working-class roots, the group takes inspiration from the raw, unfiltered creativity of working-class artists who came before them, such as 7:84 Theatre, Irvine Welsh, and even the rebellious spirit of bands like Oasis.

At the heart of Cor’ Blimey Productions is a commitment to authenticity and accessibility. They believe theatre should be entertainment first and foremost—something that resonates with audiences on a human level. If a show doesn’t have a grand, deeper meaning, they won’t force one. For them, the measure of success is simple: does it make the audience laugh, cry, or feel something real? If the answer is yes, then it’s worth doing. They reject what they see as pretentious, self-indulgent art that prioritizes virtue signaling over genuine connection.

This philosophy is their rebellion against the traditional norms of performing arts. Cor’ Blimey Productions is about breaking the rules, challenging the status quo, and creating work that speaks to the people. They are unapologetically themselves, and their mission is clear: to bring creativity, authenticity, and entertainment back to the stage. This is their way. This is the Cor’ Blimey way.
